Supply List for the Mystery Classes

Three Hour Mystery
Yes, you will finish a 32" x 32" top in three hours!  The secret is in bringing your fabric precut.  This class is fine for beginners that have mastered the perfect 1/4" seam allowance.  In addition to The Basics (below) here are the fabric requirements:

  • Dark: 1/2 yard, cut two strips 3 ½" wide by the width of the fabric and one strip 4" wide by the width of the fabric.
  • Light: 1/2 yard, cut two strips 3 ½" wide by the width of the fabric and one strip 4" wide by the width of the fabric.
  • Co-ordinating fabric: 3/4 yard, cut into five 4" wide strips by the width of the fabric.  Cross cut these strips into: three strips 25" long; two strips 11" long; two strips 32" long
  • Suggestion: we will only have time for one border in class, but this quilt does look good with additional borders. If you want your top bigger, buy extra fabric
  • Suggestion: if you have a 4" square ruler, or a mat that rotates, bring it.

Five Hour Mystery
Yes, you will finish a 34" x 34" top in five hours!  The secret is in bringing your fabric precut.  This class is fine for beginners that have mastered the perfect 1/4" seam allowance. In addition to The Basics (below) here are the fabric requirements:

  • Dark: 1 yard, cut into seven strips 3 ½" wide by WOF and one strip 5 1/2" wide by WOF. Cross cut this last strip into 5 1/2" squares.
  • Medium: 1/2 yard, cut into two strips of medium 3 ½" wide by WOF and one strip 5 1/2" wide by WOF.  Cross cut this last strip into 5 1/2" squares.
  • Light: 1 yard, cut into three strips 3 ½" wide by WOF, four strips 1 ½" wide by WOF and two strips 5 1/2" wide by WOF.  Cross cut this last strip into 5 1/2" squares.
  • Suggestion: if you have a 4 1/2" square ruler, or a mat that rotates, bring it.

All Day Mystery
This 42" x 60" quilt is easy, but I would recommend it for confident beginners  to intermediate quilters only because of the Y seam piecing needed in one of the steps.  This quilt was designed for 1930's prints, but has been done with spectacular results in both orientals and batiks.

  • 3 different FQ's (mediums or light darks - no dark darks)

  • 1/2 yard sashing (co-ordinating fabric, nice contrast to the FQs)

  • 3 /4 yard border (co-ordinating fabric with both the sashing and the FQs)

  • 1 1/4 yard background (white, light tone on tone or muslin)

  • 1 FQ black

  • a mat that rotates is helpful to square up blocks but not required.

  • a 4 1/2" square ruler is helpful but not required.

  • an 18 1/2" square ruler is helpful but not required.

  • a shopping bag will help with random selections

  • if you embroider and are making this out of 30's prints, you might want some black thread and a needle (or a pigma pen) for embellishments, but this is optional.

The Basics:

  • A sewing machine in good working order complete with power cord and foot pedal, extra filled bobbins, extra machine needlesaccessories, sewing machine extension table (if you use one), cleaning tools (oil, Q-tips, lint brush), rubber door stops to prop your machine or table towards you, OTT light and/or extra light bulb for your machine.
