Stripper Club
The amount of strips is going to vary depending on how
much time we have for the class. In a half day class, you just get
started on the basic blocks so 40 strips in a variety of darks, mediums
and lights will be enough. Since students will not be bringing home
a completed quilt top - or even blocks of the same size - the strips do
not HAVE to co-ordinate.
In a full day class we change things around a little and do
some experimenting, building on what we learned in the morning.
Double the amount of strips needed and add 1/2 yard muslin or neutral.
This is an excellent class to use up leftover strips. We suggest
a 2" x 22" but that is only a suggestion. If students want
to bring larger and/or smaller strips, that will work too.
We also suggest students bring leftover fabric. If they fall in
love with an idea and want to continue on (or experiment further), the
extra fabric will come in handy.
Also needed:
- A sewing machine in good working order complete with power cord and
foot pedal, extra filled bobbins, extra machine
needles, accessories,
sewing machine extension table (if you use one), cleaning tools (oil,
Q-tips, lint brush), rubber door stops to prop your machine or table
towards you, OTT light and/or extra light bulb for your machine.
- Basic sewing kit: extra thread
(gray is a good neutral color) pins,
scissors and/or thread
snips, seam ripper,
sewing gauge, tape measure, hand
sewing needles, needle
threader, thimble,
fabric marking pencil or
pen
- Paper marking pencil or pen, pencil sharpener, paper for
note-taking, paper lunch bag and masking tape for cleanup. Don't
forget your glasses!
- Rotary cutter, extra
blade, good sized mat,
your favorite ruler(s).
Bring a long one as well as a small 4 1/2" or 6 1/2" one.
If you have one, bring a 45
degree triangle ruler, too. If you haven't cut your strips yet, we
recommend the June
Tailor Shape Cut ruler for accurate strip cuts.
- Iron or mini-iron,
ironing mat
and an extension cord or power strip.
- Pillow to sit on, bottle of water, chocolate.
- An open mind and a desire to try something new.
- A willingness to have fun!
