Quick Table Runner
Would you believe this is a Thangle
pattern? It doesn't get any easier than this! Here is what you
need:
1/3 yard plaid
1/2 yard brown
1/2 yard orange
1/2 yard tan print
1 pkg 3 1/2" Thangles
Cut your plaid fabric into 2 1/4" wide strips by
the width of the fabric. You will need 4.
Cut your orange fabric into 2 1/4" wide strips by the width of the
fabric.You will need 5.
Cut your two squares (2 1/4" x 2 1/4") from the end of two
strips.
Cut your brown fabric into 2 1/4" wide strips by the width of the
fabric. You will need 5.
Cut your two squares (2 1/4" x 2 1/4") from the end of two
strips.
Cut your tan print fabric into 4" wide strips by the width of the
fabric. You will need 4.
Cut your Thangles into individual squares. You will get 3 from
each strip.
First sew two strips of the orange print and the
plaid. Use a tighter machine stitch so you can press the seams
open. You wouldn't normally do this, but a table runner should lay
as flat as possible. Cut these again into 4" wide
squares. You will need 12.
Now sew two strips of the brown print and the
plaid. Press and cut these into 4" wide squares. You
will need 20.
 Cut
your tan print strips into 4" squares. Place a pieced square
and a tan print square right sides together and put a Thangle square on
top. Pin carefully and sew all 24 squares. You will need 20
blocks like the one on the right and 12 like the one on the
left.
Arrange the blocks as shown in the picture at the
top. Guess what has happened? That's right, you have TWO
sets of blocks! You can either make two table runners, or make
this one reversible. Your second top will be a mirror image of the
first.
Measure
your top through the center, both horizontally and
vertically. It should be 14 1/2" by 28 1/2".
Cut your remaining orange strips to your measured length.
Sew a brown square to the end of each of the short
strips.
Sew a long strip to both sides of the top. Ease to fit,
pinning as necessary. Press to the dark. Sew the top
and bottom strips, turning the seams of the blocks in the corners
and the top in opposite directions so they nest. |

Now you can either finish them individually, or make
your runner reversible. I recommend Quilters
Dream Supreme for the batting. It's nice and thick, and the
cotton won't melt if you put something hot on it. Click on the
thumbnail below to see the second runner up close.
