Cross cut the 6 sets of sewn strips into 5" lengths. You should get four from each unit of sewn strips, giving you a total of 24 blocks. Each block will measure 5" x 8" . Press the seams to the dark.
Sew
a 2" x 8" strip to either side of the blocks you made in the
step above to make them square. Press the seams of the long piece in to
the center of the block. It should measure 8” x 8”. Square up if
necessary. You should have 24 of these blocks.
Now lay out your blocks, one vertical and one horizontal like so:

Make six rows of four each. Place your blocks with the spark color fabric randomly. Be sure to alternate rows like so:

Adding the Borders
Sew
the 2 1/2" wide spark strips end to end, mitering the seams as shown
to the left to disguise the join.
Press and measure through the center of the top
horizontally. It will be approximately
30 1/2" . Cut two 2" strips of the spark color
fabric to this length and sew to the top and bottom, pinning in the center
and easing to fit. Press. Now, measure through the center
horizontally. It should be approximately 49 1/2". Cut two
2" strips of the spark color fabric to this length and sew to the two
sides, pinning in the center and easing to fit. Press.
Repeat these steps for the second border using the 4 1/2" wide strips. This time, add the side borders first, then the top and bottom borders. Press the seam in to the top and square up if necessary. You are done with your top! What do you think?
